Trump Promised To Drain The Swamp. Americans Think He’s Filling It.

A new survey from the Navigator Research Project, whose findings are widely shared in Democratic circles, found 60% of voters believe Trump — whose political career famously began with promises to drain the swamp and criticisms of money in politics — is bringing more corruption to Washington, compared with just 40% who think he’s fixing the problem.

‘I feel really duped’: GOP in trouble as Trump ‘regretters’ bail

According to Navigator Research, “One-in-five Americans who voted for President Trump in 2024 now regret their choice.” These Trump regretters fall into a few different camps. The majority are those who voted for Trump thinking he’d be better for the economy than Democrats. Younger voters are fleeing the president, with 30 percent of Trump voters between the ages of 18-34 expressing regret, which is nearly triple that of Trump voters over 55 and well above Trump voters ages 35-54. About a third of Black and Latino Trump voters are regretful, which is double the rate of white Trump supporters. A quarter of independents and non-MAGA Republicans who voted Trump fall in the regret camp, including 37 percent of independent men, as do 22 percent of Trump-voting moms.

Allies & Enemies

Could that anxiety create more “Trump Regretters” in the swing seats? Navigator Research, the Democratic-leaning messaging firm, is out with a big new report on this set of potential 2026 voters, NOTUS’ Alex Roarty reports. Using survey and focus-group findings, the firm digs in on Trump 2024 supporters who have hung up their red hats. “One-in-five 2024 Trump voters now regret their vote, especially younger Americans, Black and Latino Americans, independents or non-MAGA Republicans, and moms,” the report finds. “Rising costs and expensive wars among top reasons why Trump voters now regret their vote.”
